Old Carved Boxes has Many Uses

Among our favorite items in our last shipment of furniture were the small hand-carved boxes from the 1930s.

These unusual boxes were hand-carved from rare huang hua li and ebony blackwood. There are many unique shapes and designs, ranging from round, flat, animals, books, and scrolls to boxes inlaid with boxwood or white nephrite jade. Inside, each one is satin smooth.

Production of these boxes is another lost Chinese art as the artisans who made them have passed away and the younger generation has not developed the skill and patience to make them. The woods they are carved from have also become extinct.

The boxes were originally made to be used to present gifts, although the gifts placed inside were usually insignificant.

We know you will enjoy owning one of these very unusual boxes. Stop by our showroom today!
