The construction and joinery of Chinese furniture has a long and rich history. The dining sets in our collection are made from the world’s finest rosewood timber, which comes from Thailand. Wood of this quality is becoming extremely rare because it takes 125 years for a tree to mature. (Hundred of years ago, Southern China had huge forests of exotic wood, but the majority of them are gone.)

When a Chinese craftsman constructs a dining set, each joint is painstakingly carved to fit snugly together to become a single unit. Using dovetail and mortise and tenon construction to provide the appropriate amount of support for the stress that will be placed on the piece, the craftsman needs only the smallest amount of glue.
