Joint Exhibition Features Rare Furniture

Among the tens of thousands of treasures on display as part of Man-U Imports' joint exhibition with the Beijing Arts and Crafts Import/Export Corporation, the fine wood furniture and other wood pieces are among the most rare yet affordable.

After several years of negotiations with high officials in Beijing, We were fortunate enough to be able to purchase the last collection of quality pieces from China’s state-owned enterprises, where China’s historically skilled craftsmen practiced their trade and goods were sold at very low prices. In today's economy, businesses are privately owned and these pieces are made to order for much higher price tags due to the extremely high cost of labor and materials and China’s double digit inflation.

We will have hundred of unique exotic furniture pieces made during the 1920s, including a wide array of cabinets, armoires, armchairs, side tables, desks, opium beds, carved wall plaques, floor screens, boxes and more. All of reproductions of 16th to 19th century pieces.

The furniture of the Ming and Qing dynasties is the highest level of Chinese furniture-making. Skilled craftsman captured the essence of the art of the dynasties, creating styles that are both practical and aesthetically pleasing.

Ming designs are characterized by elegant simplicity while the Qing designs ten to focus on details such as lacquer finishes, inlay, joinery and intricate carving. The workmanship in these period pieces is admired and sought after by collectors worldwide.

Many kinds of wood were used in making these pieces and many have become quite rare. The darker woods such as Huanghuali, Hongmu, Ebony, Mahogany, Juchimu and Rosewood (Huali) were chosen for their hardness, color and grain.

You will not find a finer collection of furniture of this type anywhere in the United States. And as always, at Man-U Imports you will find pricing that makes it affordable to add pieces of rare quality - and great potential for appreciation - to your collection.
