Man-U Imports Makes History

Beginning July 2000, Man-U Imports and the Bejing Arts and Crafts Import/Export Corporation will present a joint exhibition of tens of thousands of rare treasures from China.

The occasion is the 50th anniversary of the Bejing Arts and Crafts Import/Export Corporation and Man-U Imports’ 26th anniversary. The two companies have been collaborating for several years to put together selection of Chinese treasures of exquisite value and quality and three very senior representatives from Bejing Arts and Crafts Import/Export Corporation will visit Man-U Imports during the exhibition.

Among the items featured will be rare ebony and rosewood furniture and screens, made in the 1920s and 1940s when Chinese furniture-making was truly an art form. This collection is predicted to be the last intact example of this type of craftsmanship to be imported.

Not only are the designs are timeless, but the wood from which they were made has become extremely rare. It will take 125 to 300 years to replenish the supply that was depleted during past centuries. At the same time, there are fewer and fewer skilled craftsmen in China who can produce museum quality pieces such as these.

We consider each piece in this furniture collection to be a “sleeper” in terms of current cost because the pieces are not quite 100 years old. In contrast, the prices for 18th and 19th century pieces are soaring and the value of these mid-20th century pieces can only increase.

The exhibition will also feature an important collection of cloisonné featuring many one-of-a-kind pieces purchased from a government showroom.

An impressive array of porcelain, bronze, jade, cinnabar and black lacquer pieces will be prominently featured, along with the moon cake boxes, snuff bottles, Tang tri-color pottery and terra cotta warriors.

Throughout this issue of Man-U Imports News you will find articles on each of the types of pieces you can look forward to seeing during this rare and wonderful exhibition in our 38,000 sq. ft. showroom. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to add important artifacts to your personal collection.
